Falling For Fall

This is a magical time of year for so many parents; the kids have gone back to school and the need to find things to keep them occupied has evaporated like your back-to-school budget.  For people like me however, who are regrettably without children, this time of year might seem like any other.  Alas, fortunately this is not the case.

Despite the fact that my home is devoid of the hustle and bustle of family life, this time of year still holds a very special place in my heart.  There is something almost magical about this time of year; the days are filled with the bright and inviting warmth of the autumn sun, and the evenings are crisp and clean like fresh bedding.  There is a subtle lilt in the air as Mother Nature prepares herself to wind operations down for yet another year.  In very short time, the leaves will begin to turn, and the horizon will be awash with a sea of red, yellow and orange.  Is there anything more intoxicating then the smell of the fall leaves as they crunch beneath your feet? I think not; save for the smell of an open fire and the harvest soup simmering on the stove.

Soon the fields will also be abuzz with the sounds of harvesting equipment as the farmers, to whom we owe so much, begin to collect the bounties of their hard work.  The ritualistic harvest beckons the time of year for fall fairs; a time when communities come together to celebrate the season, and to reacquaint themselves with each other;  amidst the jubilant clatter of ferris wheels , livestock and children clambering for cotton candy and caramel apples.  I invite each of you, my friends and neighbours, to join me in celebrating the fall season at the 2012 Great Northern Exhibition, starting Friday September 21st at the GNE grounds outside of Collingwood.  For more information, please click on the following link:
