365 Days in Horse Country – Poker Rides

If you belong to a local equestrian group of live in a horsy community, you have probably heard of a poker ride.  Poker rides have become popular ways for organizations to make money while getting members together to ride.

A poker ride is essentially a trail ride where riders play a horseback version of poker.  Each rider gets five cards throughout the ride at designated stations along the trail route of anywhere from 5 to 0 miles (8 to 16km).  Riders can purchase as many hands as they want.  The rider with the best poker hand of all the riders at the end of the ride wins the jackpot.

Poker rides are fun to put together and even more fun to participate in.  They are good fundraisers for small organizations, and they bring riders together.  Think about holding a poker ride for a local charity, or join in on a ride to have fun.
